9-patch blocks

6. Hidden 9-Patch (page 2)

It's tempting to start the next step before all the blocks are made. I finished the first four 9-patch blocks and couldn't wait any longer.

But I did wait until I had all nine 9-patch blocks finished and cut before I made the final decision and started sewing them back together again.

Okay, the next step was to cut the 9-patch block in half right through the middle. Then cut again, crosswise, right through the middle. This produced "Quarters" of blocks. Notice the "Feature" fabric blocks are the only ones still intact.

First cut second cut in 9-patch

Remember you need at least 4 blocks already cut into quarters (6 blocks cut is even better), before you can get a good idea of how they'll look when you put them together. start moving them around to test which configuration pleases you most. See examples A, B, and C below.

I did find it interesting that configurations B and C looked identical when I put all nine blocks on the design board. I guess there's only so much you can do with 3-colors. Maybe next time I'll try 4-color or 5-color mix and see what I get.
